Recently, clients and potential clients of Manta Test Systems participated in a GPS time-synchronized end-to-end testing demonstration. This involved setting up 2 terminals in a permissive overreachhing transfer trip scheme and simultaneously injecting prepared fault cases into the relays at both terminals. The fault waveforms were obtained from simulations from Manta Test Systems' Fault Builder software as well as COMTRADE files. Different in-section and out-of-section faults were used to verify the basic protection scheme as well as the co-ordination between the two ends. Of particular interest was the parallel line, current reversal test. |
The sequence of events recording from the MTS-1730 digital channels displayed using the MTS-1800 software made it easy to analyze the test results in detail. Internal relay timers, element operating times, output contact delays, and channel delays could all be measured and verified.
The simple operation of the hardware and software as well as the usefulness of this method for system testing of transmission line protection schemes was illustrated.
